PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary compressor capable of effectively inhibiting leak of refrigerant from a part between a compression member and a cylinder over a wide rotation angle range of the compression member. SOLUTION: The rotary compressor is provided with a first cylinder 8 disposed in a casing and including a compression chamber compressing refrigerant, a first piston 12 which is a compression member disposed in the first cylinder 8 and compresses refrigerant in the compression chamber, and a drive mechanism installed in the casing and driving the first piston 12. The first piston 12 is installed in the first cylinder 8 in such a manner that the minimum gap between the first piston 12 and inner circumference surface 80 of the first cylinder 8 exists in a range wherein the rotation angle of the first piston 12 is from 135°to 225°when the rotation angle position after completion of compression of refrigerant by the first piston 12 is defined as 0°. Force in a direction toward the inner circumference surface 80 of the first cylinder 8 is applied to the first piston 12 after passing rotation angle position of the first piston 12 of the minimum gap.
