<p>A cooking device has a heating section for heating a cooking container, a top surface operation section for instructing control etc. of the heating section, a light emission section for causing the top surface operation section to light up, and a wire breakage detection section for detecting whether there is a wire breakage in the light emission section. When the wire breakage detection section detects a wire breakage in the light emission section, the cooking device invalidates operation by the top surface operation section. This prevents unintentional activation of the device by a user who inadvertently presses an operable key despite the top surface operation section not lighting due to the wire breakage.</p>
