<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission photointerrupter which can prevent incorrect detection without causing complication of configuration. <P>SOLUTION: The transmission photointerrupter has such a structure as a light receiving element 12 is divided into a regular light receiving region 12a and a light receiving region 12b for detecting illegal act arranged contiguously to each other. Consequently it becomes extremely hard to adjust the optical axis such that the light of an externally inserted light emitting body enters the regular light receiving region 12a but does not enter the light receiving region 12b.
