A user's bottle (not shown) is filled with water on demand at a bottle reception station of a water dispensing apparatus 1, or water vending machine. A nozzle 5 coupled to a source of water is positioned in confronting relation to, but spaced from, the open mouth of a bottle located at the station such that a bottle cannot make contact with the nozzle 5. The nozzle 5 position is also inaccessible to manual touch by a user. Preferably, when a bottle presses against cone shaped receptor 6, detectors such as microswitches (30, fig. 5) operate a solenoid valve to allow water to be dispensed. Thus, water may be dispensed from the source through the nozzle 5 and into a bottle without making contact with any surface of the apparatus with which a bottle or its user may make contact. This provides a more hygienic means of dispensing water, and reduces the risk of contamination. |
