A product for making into printing rollers is made by mixing together polyvinyl alcohol, glycerol, a di- or polycarboxylic acid or anydride capable of esterifying glycerol (especially phthalic anhydride), a sugar (especially sucrose), water and hydrochloric acid, allowing the mixture to stand for about 2 hours and then maintaining the mixture at 110 DEG -120 DEG C. until a pH of 4 is reached. The acid may also be adipic, sebacic, maleic or terephthalic acid. |
