PROCESSES FOR PRODUCING COATING FLUID AND OPTICALLY ANISOTROPIC FILM

[PROBLEMS] To provide: (a) a process for producing a coating fluid which contains a lyotropic liquid-crystal compound showing liquid crystallinity in a wide concentration range; and (b) a process for producing an optically anisotropic film having a high degree of orientation from the coating fluid. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The process for coating fluid production comprises the step of mixing an acidic solution comprising a lyotropic liquid-crystal compound and a solvent with ammonium hydroxide to regulate the pH of the coating fluid. The process for optically-anisotropic-film production comprises a step in which the coating fluid produced by the process for coating fluid production is cast into a thin film and then dried to obtain an optically anisotropic film.
