PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent error in detecting as accidental heating of an empty pot when a power source is turned on while a heating means (water-boiling heater and heat-retention heater) and an inner container remain under a high temperature, as in the case of using an electric pot again immediately after it is used. SOLUTION: In an electric pot structured to detect accidental heating of an empty pot by a sharp rise in a detected temperature by a temperature detecting means, a detection process of the accidental heating is designed to be performed immediately after the completion of preliminary heating in which the pot is heated by the heating means for only a prescribed duration. As in the case of using the pot again immediately after it is used, when the electric power is turned on while the heating means and the inner container remain under a high temperature, the duration of the "preliminary heating" serves the role of the "regular heating", causing convection of hot water and sharply raising the detected temperature of the temperature detecting means. Even under such circumstances, the detection process of the accidental heating is unactivated, thereby eliminating the error of detecting the sharp rise in the detected temperature as the accidental heating of the empty pot.
