<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission device which is compact in the axial direction of an input shaft and in which a distance between an input shaft and an output shaft is relatively small. <P>SOLUTION: The transmission device 31 comprises a first clutch 55 having a first rotating shaft 53 a second rotating shaft 54 that are arranged in the direction perpendicular to the direction of the axis of the input shaft 52, and also having a third rotating shaft 64, a first shift gear pair 86 having a first gear 58 that rotates together with an output side clutch member 57 and also having a second gear 63, a first transmission gear pair 84 having a third gear 87 that rotates together with the first rotating shaft 53 and also having a fourth gear 75, a second transmission gear pair 85 having a fifth gear 74 that rotates together with the second rotating shaft 54, and also having a sixth gear 78, a second clutch 70, and a second transmission gear pair 91 having a seventh gear 73 that rotates together with an output side clutch member 72, and also having an eighth gear 77.
