The element has protective layers (1a, 1b) arranged on measuring electrodes (3, 4) of a measuring electrode system (2). The protective layers are designed congruently to upper surfaces (6a, 6b) of the measuring electrodes, respectively. The upper surfaces of the measuring electrodes face surfaces of measuring electrodes are arranged on an isolation layer (5). The electrodes of the layers comprise metal e.g. platinum/ceramic-cermets such as platinum/Aluminum oxide-Cermet, and a support layer is made of zirconium oxide i.e. yttrium-endowed zirconium oxide, and/or alumina. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a sensor element.
