[Also in Group XXX] A conveyer belt of a type which is supported on and driven by pulley-supported ropes comprises a core 16 of elastomeric material containing transverse resilient metal reinforcing bars 15, a woven fabric layer 11 wrapped completely around the core, and an elastomeric envelope 12. The bars 15 may be of spring steel and of square or other cross-section, or formed by twisting together several smaller rods, and may be twisted, apertured, &c. to key with the elastomeric material. The core material 16 may comprise spacing blocks between the bars 15 and upper and lower sheets 18 and side strips 17. The woven layer 11 may be of natural textile or thermoplastic material and may be impregnated with the material of the envelope; the edges of the layer preferably overlap in the centre of one face of the core. The envelope comprises upper and lower centre layers 19, 21, and edge-pieces 13, 14, with longitudinal grooves to accommodate driving ropes. The elastomeric material may be rubber, of a wearresisting kind in the outer layers, or of material such as polyvinyl chloride. After assembly the components of the belt are cured and/or consolidated with heat and pressure. |
