In a point detection system (1), a point detector bar (5) is slidably captivated within a point detector sleeve (10), and a target (25) is integrally engaged with the point detector bar (5). The target (25) is sense d by at least one sensing device (30, 35) to detect the movement of the point detector bar (5). The point detector sleeve (10) is supported b y track and field side bearings (12, 20) that are affixed to track and field side walls (14), respectively, of the housing (17). The point detector bar (5) extends outside the housing (17) from only the track side bearing (12). The bearings (12, 20) are interchangeable. The sensing devices (30, 35) are mounted upon slide mechanism (40, 45) to adjust the sensing devices relative to the target.
