<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit and an image processing method for performing image reduction processing at low cost, while improving the image quality. <P>SOLUTION: In the image processing unit 1, a bit reduction unit 2 reduces the lower bits of input image data in units of pixels by the number of bits according to an image reduction rate and inputs them to a reduced image generating unit 7 and a line buffer 5. A white pixel detecting unit 3 detects whether the input image data is a white pixel in units of pixels and inputs it to the reduced image generating unit 7 and the line buffer 6. The reduced image generating unit 7 generates a reduced image, based on the white pixel detection result of the white pixel detecting unit 3, a past white pixel detection result from the line buffer 6, a bit reduction pixel from the bit reduction unit 2 and a past bit reduction pixel from the line buffer 5, and sets the target pixel of the reduced image as a white pixel, when the white pixel detection result of a target region to be reduced is a white pixel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
