PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly re-start an engine 1 in an automatic stop device for the engine 1. SOLUTION: An automatic stop/start control means ECU 2 automatically stops the engine 1 when predetermined requirements for automatic stop are satisfied, after the automatic stop of the engine 1, determines whether the first requirements for re-start related to the will of starting of the driver and the second requirements for re-start related to the request of a vehicle side are satisfied or not, and when the first and second requirements for re-start are satisfied, re-starts the engine 1. When a door is opened when the engine 1 is automatically stopped, the requirements related to the state of a battery among the second requirements for re-start are changed to those under which the requirements are hard to be satisfied, and the requirements on the request for operation of an air conditioner are canceled. Consequently, the automatic stop/start control means re-starts the engine 1 when the requirements after the state of the battery is changed are satisfied, but does not restart the engine 1 even when there is the request for operation of the air conditioner.
