PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of an action failure such as a driven failure in a separating roll for separating recording sheets one by one, to prevent the occurrence of jamming of the recording sheets due to the action failure of the separating roll, and to suppress partial wear when a friction coefficient of a separating roll surface is lowered. SOLUTION: The paper feeding device comprises a feeding roll feeding the plurality of stacked recording sheets; a carrying roll carrying only one recording sheet on a surface side of the recording sheets fed by the feeding roll; the separating roll arranged while abutting on the carrying roll, and separating the second or more recording sheets positioned on a back surface side from the first recording, when the feeding roll feeds two or more recording sheets; a separating roll rotation detecting means detecting a rotation state of the separating roll; and a determining means determining whether the recording sheets are normally separated or not according to a detection result of the separating roll rotation detecting means.
