The invention relates to a method to determine an alcohol content in the fuel of an internal combustion engine, in which the fuel is delivered to the individual cylinders of the internal combustion engine by way of a fuel supply via a fuel rail; and the exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine is discharged via an exhaust gas manifold of an exhaust gas system, wherein at least one exhaust gas probe is present, and in which current changes in the alcohol content of the fuel are evaluated from the signal flow of a lambda signal of the exhaust gas probe, and said signal results from a closed-loop lambda control. With this method a change in the alcohol content of the fuel can be detected and an explicit condition for a change in fuel can be derived. Moreover with the method, fuel-mixture errors can be distinguished from a changed fuel composition after a filling of the tank (fueling). |
