<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve occupant protection performance in a steering operation device provided with right and left separate grips. <P>SOLUTION: A right handle member 40R provided with a right grip 42R at a distal end of a right spoke 43R and a left handle member 40L provided with a left grip 42L at a distal end of a left spoke 43L are connected to a sliding member 30. The sliding member 30 is mounted on a boss member 20. An actuator 150 for moving a grip is operated in a vehicle collision to push the sliding member 30 in a vehicle front direction. By forward moving of the sliding member 30, the right and left handle members 40R and 40L are moved forward and are oscillated during the forward moving. As a result, the right and left grips 42R and 42L are pulled in to the front and are moved to a handle center side.
