PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow cloth to complete moving by the time a needle drops. SOLUTION: A sewing machine comprises a sewing machine motor 2a to rotate a main shaft for moving a sewing needle up and down, an angle sensor 2b to detect a rotation amount of the sewing machine motor 2a, a cloth holding frame 111 to hold the cloth to be sewn, cloth moving motors 76a, 77a to move the holding frame 111 to a given position, distance detection sensors 76c, 77c to detect the distance of the cloth moving motors 76a, 77a, a timer to measure an operating time of the cloth moving motors 76a, 77a, a memory processing means to memorize the measured operating time in a nonvolatile memory 72 in connection with the distance of the cloth moving motors 76a, 77a, and a driving control means to identify the operating time in reference to the memory means from a target distance of the cloth moving motors 76a, 77a and to determine a rotation speed of the sewing machine motor 2a from the operating time.
