PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photographing device capable of performing focus adjustment with high accuracy with little time lag when performing photography from a live view display state, and a control method for the photographing device. SOLUTION: When a release button 21 is half-depressed in the midst of live view display, contrast AF is performed at high speed with first focusing accuracy in a step #105. Thereafter, when the release button 21 (#107) is fully depressed, a movable mirror 201 advances in the optical path of a photographic optical system 101 to perform phase difference AF with higher accuracy than the first focusing accuracy (#121).
