A liquid crystal display device is provided to improve display quality by enhancing close adhesion of an insulating layer formed between an upper electrode and a lower electrode. A liquid crystal is maintained between a pair of substrates facing each other and a pair of electrodes drive the liquid crystal while interposing an insulating layer(44) on one substrate of the pair of substrates. A compressive stress of the insulating layer formed between a pixel electrode(42) and a common electrode(46) is between 0 and 5 x 104N/cm^2. The insulating layer and the pair of electrodes form the storage capacity.
