PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutaneous respiration measuring instrument which can actually measure what cc of carbon dioxide per second per 1 cm<SP>2</SP>is discharged from the skin by introducing (cc/cm<SP>2</SP>s) which is the unit for evaluating the respiration amount of the skin in order to overturn the present status that the study regarding the cutaneous respiration has not been performed at all, although the cutaneous respiration is an important factor regarding health and in order to raise the research theme regarding the cutaneous respiration in the fields of medical treatments and cosmetic treatments. SOLUTION: A CO<SB>2</SB>collecting apparatus, which can collect a small amount of carbon dioxide being discharged by the skin through the respiration, is pressed to the skin, and the collected carbon dioxide is fed to a sensor after one minute has passed. Thus, the respiration amount of the skin is calculated from the variation of a thermal conductivity which increases/decreases depending on the concentration of the carbon dioxide, and is displayed. When high sensitivity is required, the carbon dioxide is made to dissolve into a thin water layer, and the electric resistance and pH of the water layer which change by the carbon dioxide are measured. Thus, the small amount of the carbon dioxide which is discharged by the skin respiration can actually be measured. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
