PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holographic recording medium excellent in characteristics such as high diffraction efficiency, preferable storing property, a low shrinkage rate, drying process property and multiple recording characteristics. SOLUTION: The holographic recording composition contains: a compound that is rendered into an excited state by absorption of light in a sensitive wavelength region to generate electrons and/or energy; and a cyanine coloring moiety-containing compound that can induce a wavelength shift ofλmax to a shorter side or decrease in a molar absorbance upon receiving electrons and/or energy.
