[Also in Group XXVIII] A portable device for securing a pipe fitting S to a flexible hose h or detaching it therefrom, comprises a base-plate 10 carrying a die set 32 and connected to a parallel top plate 12 by posts 14 on which slide a pressure plate 18 carrying a member 38 for supporting the workpiece, both the top and pressure plates having aligned slots 34, Fig. 6 (not shown), providing clearance for the workpiece. The latter may be an elbow fitting with a sleeve S which is pushed into and over the hose h passing through the die set 32. With the fitting supported in the member 38, pressure is applied to plate 18, by a pair of hydraulic motors 20, whereby the edge of the sleeve S is swaged on to the hose. The die set is mounted in an adaptor ring 30 which is omitted when larger dies are used. A hand pump 28, Fig. 1 (not shown), actuates both hydraulic motors. In another embodiment, Fig. 8, the device uses a splitting die 48 for stripping an elbow from the hose h. |
