PORTABLE TERMINAL

A portable terminal has operation keys (7) located in key through-holes in a housing body for covering a printed board (15), and the operation keys (7) are formed by sectioning a stainless steel sheet (26)(key sheet) by slits (26a) prepared in the sheet. A urethane sheet (28) is applied to the rear side of the stainless steel sheet (26). The urethane sheet (28) has ridges (28a) projecting from the slits (26a) to the front side of the sheet, and the rear sides of the ridges (28a) are open in a groove-like shape.A rubber layer (29) is applied to the rear side of the urethane sheet (28), where the rubber layer (29) has projections (23) located at positions that correspond to fixed contacts (16) on the printed board (25) and projecting to the printed board (25) side. LEDs (light emission means) and a light guider sheet (21) are placed closer to the printed board than the rubber layer (29). Grooves (29a)(malfunction prevention means) are arranged in the rubber layer (29) at its positions corresponding to the rear sides of the ridges (28a), and the grooves (29a) prevent operation keys (7) adjacent to each ridge (28a) from being depressed at the same time. Light from the LEDs is uniformly guided to the operation keys (7). The operation keys (7) are nice to the touch and are adapted so that they are less likely to malfunction.
