PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which carrier deposition on a photoreceptor hardly occurs and a good image with no void is obtained. SOLUTION: A development roller 27 includes a multipole magnetization member 35 and a nonmagnetic sleeve 36 rotatably fitted to an outer periphery of the multipole magnetization member 35. In the multipole magnetization member 35, magnetic poles 41-45 each made of a bar magnet having a rectangular cross-sectional shape are radially arranged in circumferential separate positions. Among the magnetic poles, the magnetic pole facing a development nip part is particularly used as a main magnetic pole 41. A photoreceptor drum 21 includes therein a counter magnetic pole 46 made of a bar magnet having a rectangular cross-sectional shape.
