The invention provides a system for reducing and/or preventing anxiety in an individual in need comprising: a non-restraining apparel adapted for applying varying pressure to at least one selected body part of the individual; means measuring at least one physiological parameter indicative of the individual's anxiety level; and means for applying pressure by the apparel in varying degrees and for varying periods of time to at least one selected body part of the individual. The system is particularly useful for soothing and pacifying individuals suffering from a sensory modulation disorder such as autism.
