PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly convert a moving image in interlaced scanning mode into a high-definition moving image of progressive scanning mode. SOLUTION: An image display apparatus is provided with an input section for receiving first and second image fields in interlaced scanning mode; an image signal processing section for calculating the difference in sampling position, by using each of image data corresponding to the first and second image fields, and correcting the difference in position, by using the difference in spatial position of scanning lines between the first and second image fields, and applying conversion processing to the first and second image fields, by using the corrected difference in the positions for compositing the fields, thereby generating an image frame in progressive scanning mode; and a display section for displaying the image frame generated by the image signal processing section.
