The present invention relates to methods of detecting the presence or absence of a nucleic acid segment in the (Phosphoserine phosphatase-like) PSPHL gene locus of a subject. The invention also relates to methods of identifying a subject at risk for developing prostate cancer, and methods of determining the prognosis of a subject with prostate cancer. The invention features kits for use in identifying a subject at risk for developing prostate cancer.
