The device (1) has a carrier for carrying a load, and a drive unit with a chain wheel for moving the carrier between a starting position (A) out of a vehicle (11) and a loading position (B) in the vehicle. Two guide covers are provided on each side of a plastic switching link band (13) for lateral guidance of the band. The drive unit switches the band from the starting position from one of guides (15) pushed to the loading position. The band is switched from the loading position to the starting position to withdraw the band.
