A water gate opening and closing type hydroelectric power generation is provided to reduce construction costs and prevent water pollution while producing larger amount of electricity. A water gate opening and closing type hydroelectric power generation comprises a water channel(2) installed under a bank(1); a water wheel(3) installed on the water channel; a pulley installed onto the water wheel and a propeller shaft; a generator(5), and a water gate opening and closing device(10) which opens and closes the water gate. When water passes through the water channel, the pulley of the water wheel and the pulley of the propeller shaft is connected through a belt. In case the water wheel rotates, the generator is activated and produces electricity.
