In a milking installation including a number of teat cups arranged to deliver milk into a common milk line, both ends of the milk line are connected to a source of vacuum so that milk can flow from the teat cups towards either or both ends of the milk line. As described the milk line 1 provided with milk tubes 2 leading to tea cups 3 is connected at one end to an interceptor vessel 4, from which milk is discharged by a pump 6, and at the other end to a second milk line 7 also connected to the vessel 4. For cleaning purposes, line 7 is provided with a change over cock 8 which can be operated to disconnect line 7 from vessel 4 and connect it to a supply of washing liquid contained in tank 9. The line 7 is also provided with cock controlled branches 11 having jetter cups 12 connectable to the teat cups so that washing liquid passes through the teat cups 3 into milk line 1 and vessel 4 from where it is returned by pump 6 to the tank 9. A check valve 13 is provided at the junction of lines 1 and 7, the valve obstructing without completely preventing flow of liquid from line 7 to line 1 but allowing free flow of liquid in the reverse direction during milking.
