PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a single crystal for a scintillator in which a fluorescent property is improved by reducing a segregation phenomena between elements in a crystal ingot. SOLUTION: The single crystal for the scintillator contains a cerium activated orthosilicate compound represented by the following general formula Lm<SB>2-</SB>(x+y+z)Ln<SB>x</SB>Lu<SB>y</SB>Ce<SB>z</SB>SiO<SB>5</SB>(1) (wherein Lm represents a lanthanoid element with an atomic number smaller than that of Lu and at least one element selected from Sc and Y; Ln represents at least one selected from a group consisting of the lanthanoid elements having an ion radius between those of Lm and Lu, and represents at least one element selected from a group comprising Sc, Y, B, Al, Ga and In; x is >0 and≤0.5; y is >1 and <2, and z is >0 and≤0.1).
