Method of separating nitrogen from a mixed nitrogen and methane-containing stream, the method at least comprising the step of contacting the mixed nitrogen and methane-containing stream (40) with a solid sorbent comprising a metal organic framework (2), thereby obtaining a nitrogen enriched stream (70). Optionally, the mixed nitrogen and methane-containing stream (40) is obtained from a gas/liquid separator (3) providing a gaseous methane-containing stream (40) and a liquid methane-containing stream (50), whilst at least a part of the gaseous methane-containing stream (40) is contacted with the solid sorbent in a MOF unit (2). As a further option, at least a part of the methane-containing stream (40) has been liquefied (6) upstream of the gas/liquid separator (3).
