A plasma display apparatus and the method of the apparatus is provided to prevent damage to the fluorescent substance and extend the lifetime of the display panel. In a plasma display apparatus and the method of the apparatus, a plasma display panel includes the third electrode which is formed in the direction of intersecting the first electrode and, the second electrode. A control unit controls a driving signal supplied to the plasma display panel(500). A first driving unit(200) supplies a scan signal to the first electrode during an address period by the control unit, and supplies a sustain signal including the positive sustain voltage and negative sustain voltage(Vs) during the sustain period. A second driver unit(300) supplies a data signal including data voltage to a third electrode during the address period by the control unit. A reference dividing control unit(400) control the connection and separation of the first reference voltage and second reference voltage. |
