PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens system which has a maximum half angle of around 3.3°at its telephoto end, makes high-speed automatic focusing possible, has an image blurring-correcting function, has excellent imaging characteristics and is compact in size; and to provide a camera using the zoom lens system. SOLUTION: The zoom lens system has, sequentially from an object side, the first lens group having positive power, the second lens group having negative power, the third lens group having positive power, the fourth lens group having negative power, the fifth lens group having positive power and the sixth lens group having negative power. The fifth lens group has, sequentially from the object side, the fifth-a lens group and the fifth-b lens group arranged through the fifth-a lens group and an air interval which does not change at the time of zooming. The zoom lens system changes, at the time of zooming, an interval between the first and second lens groups and an interval between the third and fourth lens groups so that the air intervals between the first and second lens groups and the air interval between the third and fourth lens groups may be longer at the telephoto end than at the wide-angle end. The zoom lens system moves, at the time of focusing, the sixth lens group along the optical axis, and also parallely moves the fifth-b lens group in the direction perpendicular to the optical axis when the image blurring caused by the oscillation of the whole system is corrected.
