PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for manufacturing a carbon nanotube capable of efficiently decomposing a carbon source gas. SOLUTION: In a reaction tube 1, a carbon source decomposing catalyst 29 of a Ti catalyst is placed at an upstream side of a carbon nanotube growing catalyst 25 of a Co catalyst. Consequently, the growing speed of carbon nanotube is accelerated since the decomposition of carbon source can be efficiently done before the carbon source reaches the carbon nanotube growing catalyst 25, namely, a sufficient pyrolysis reaction is done in the reaction tube 1. In addition, the most suitable catalysts are used respectively for a carbon nanotube growing catalyst 25 and a carbon source decomposing catalyst 29 by changing kinds of catalysts.
