1372406 Zinc mercuric oxide alkaline cells VARTA BATTERIE AG 29 Nov 1971 [30 Nov 1970] 55406/71 Heading H1B To enable the detection of a discharged condition (partial or almost complete) of a zinc mercuric oxide alkaline cell by measurement of its open-circuit voltage, which voltage remains substantially constant irrespective of the discharge state, argentous oxide, Ag 2 O, is added to the cathode to give the cell an initially higher O.C.V. This increase is 0À247 v. but is quickly lost on commencement of discharge when the cell reverts to its normal O.C.V. of 1À35 v. The Ag 2 O may be mixed with the HgO or may be separate therefrom. A specified cathode mix comprises these parts by weight: 87 of HgO, 5 of Ag 2 O, 8 of graphite and 0À75 of binder. |
