1499038 Continuous casting ZN GETSELEV 12 Jan 1977 01191/77 Heading B3F A hollow ingot 6 is continuously cast without the use of a mould, its outer surface 5 and inner surface 18 being shaped electromagnetically, before solidification, by an inductor 4 and a coaxial inner inductor 17 respectively; stainless steel screens 29 and 16 distribute the fields in an axial direction and the inductor 4 is framed in a ring 1 which delivers coolant from holes 12 on to the surface 5 while the inductor 17 is mounted in a casing 13 which delivers coolant on to the surface 18. The ingot 6 is formed on an annular plate 32, initially between the inductors 4, 17, but lowered as the ingot forms. To balance the intensities of the electromagnetic fields, the inductor 4, of a single turn of hollow copper bar, is 1À2-3 times the height of the inner inductor 17 which is a single turn of solid copper bar. |
