A discontinuously operating centrifugal strainer is loaded and the material is spread substantially uniformly over the perforated cylindrical wall of the basket 10 by dividing the material flow from a conduit 32, having slide valve 38, into three separate streams by means of deflectors 40, each flow separately falling onto one of a series of superposed discs 18, 20, 22 mounted on a rotary shaft 12. The diameters of the discs decrease from bottom to top of the basket and direct the material against a filter 14 positioned adjacent the drum wall. The liquid phase passes through the filter into a casing 16 and the dried product is evacuated through a lower orifice 11. |
