PURPOSE:To obtain a power supply in good efficiency, by providing a switching element, which connects a capacitor with a DC power supply to be charged, and a flywheel circuit, in the case of the electric discharge machining power supply providing the capacitor parallelly with an electrode and a work. CONSTITUTION:A power supply constitutes a flywheel circuit which charges a capacitor C1 with a current I1 if a transistor T1 is turned on while further the capacitor C1 with a current I2 due to accumulated energy of an inductance L1 through a diode D1 if the transistor T1 is turned off. The power supply, applying voltage VC of said capacitor C1 across an electrode P and a work W, generates an electric discharge. Even if the before said charging voltage VC decreases, the capacitor C1, being charged with a stray inductance L2 in a reverse direction, generates reverse voltage. The capacitor C1 is charged with said electric charge again in a forward direction through the inductance L1 and the diode D1. An energy loss is decreased by providing said diode D1.
