Additional content is loaded onto information handling systems (computers) during build-to-order manufacture based upon an efficiency parameter 420 determined for a factory where content is being downloaded onto the information handling systems. The efficiency parameter identifying excess download capacity of the factory manufacturing the information handling systems. Determining the efficiency parameter preferably includes considering the number of orders for a time period T 410, the number of cells operational during the time period T 412 and the maximum throughput of the cells for the time period T 414. If the efficiency parameter indicates there is no excess download capacity then no optional data is installed. If the efficiency parameter is determined to be less than 1 (step 422) then there is spare download capacity and step 430 determines the extra time available per system. This time is then used to determine the quantity of additional data which can be downloaded in step 440 and in step 450 an intelligent system selects the additional data to download to each system. This additional data can be optional, locked or trial content/software and can be provided to the customer in a hidden partition. There is also provided a method for creating a partition of optimum size for the data to be downloaded to the systems. |
