PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal input device whose operation can be matched to an operator's operation feeling. SOLUTION: From output voltages of two potentiometers for detecting a longitudinal and a lateral tilt position of an operating rod, a controller computes a value R<SB>V</SB>corresponding to the square of a distance from a center reference position to a current position. The value R<SB>V</SB>is compared with a value R<SB>M</SB>computed and stored in the preceding cycle. If the value R<SB>V</SB>is the smaller, a signal U<SB>0</SB>is output as when the operating rod is positioned in the reference position. When the operating rod is moved toward the reference position to end the operation, screen scrolling or the like on the screen of a monitor television can be immediately stopped.
