PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly perform switching and volume adjustment of audio during switching by automatically detecting a video/audio deviation time and timing outputs in a receiver capable of receiving a plurality of signals transmitted hierarchically and outputting the signals while switching them. SOLUTION: The digital broadcast receiver includes a hierarchical layer buffer means for temporarily storing video/audio signals of respective hierarchical layers, a hierarchical layer decoding means for decoding video/audio signals of the respective hierarchical layers. A delay time is calculated by detecting a scene switching timing from the video/audio signals of the respective hierarchical layers, and volume information outputted from a strong hierarchical layer volume detecting means is compared with that outputted from a weak hierarchical layer volume detecting means while taking the delay time into account. If there is a volume different between the both, a volume control means is controlled to make the volumes of the both equal when video/audio of a receiving hierarchical layer is switched.
