The roller (10) has a multi-layered roller shell (12), which includes a carrying layer (14), a sound and/or vibration damping layer (16) and a cover layer (18).The sound and/or vibration damping layer includes a spirally wound core (20), which is made of a material that has a higher damping characteristic value than a fiber reinforced plastic (22). The carrying layer and the cover layer are made of monolithically formed fiber-reinforced plastic e.g. carbon fiber reinforced plastic or glass fiber reinforced plastic. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a roller.
