The brake pad has a pad compound (2) with an integrated pad wear indicator (3) and a brake backing plate (1). The pad wear indicator is formed in a pin or bolt-like manner and embedded in the brake backing plate and the pad compound such that the indicator extends from a wear barrier (5) to an aperture (6) of the brake backing plate. The indicator is movable by a compressive force of a brake disc in the direction of the brake backing plate. The pad wear indicator has a higher wear resistance than the pad compound.
