A reservation record method using a VOP(Video Object Plane) and a system therefor are provided to register the VOP for reservation record in a memory and perform the reservation record from the same plane as the previously registered VOP among received broadcasting program signals. An input unit(101) receives an extraction signal for extracting a VOP and a VOP reservation record signal for reservation record. When the extraction signal is received from the input unit, a VOP extracting unit(1035) extracts a VOP inputted from the outside in an MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group)-decoded video and registers the extracted VOP in a memory(1037). When the VOP reservation record signal is received from the input unit, a record unit(1041) performs reservation record from a time when the same VOP exists to a time when a corresponding program ends when the same plane as the previously registered VOP exists in the MPEG-decoded video. A control unit(1039) controls the VOP extracting unit according to the extraction signal received from the input unit, and controls the record unit according to the VOP reservation record signal received from the input unit.
