An apparatus and a method for controlling an engine for a vehicle are provided to complete control of an engine RPM if direct connection of a lock-up clutch is performed by a flag set by a lock-up clutch control logic. An apparatus for controlling an engine for a vehicle comprises a vehicle controller(10) that outputs control signals for regenerative braking and regeneration. An engine controller(20) is driven by the control signal of regenerative braking to set the increment of a target torque. A transmission controller(30) outputs a target engine RPM and an engine RPM control request flag to the engine controller. A lock-up clutch control logic(40) is provided in the transmission controller to control rise of an engine RPM according to the increment of the target torque. A motor controller(50) starts regenerative generation according to the control signal for regeneration if direct connection of a lock-up clutch is performed by the lock-up clutch control logic. |
