<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly efficient illuminating apparatus which efficiently takes out light produced in a fluorescent substance or a phosphorescent substance to an outer part, by using a light emitting element of high performance for an excitation light source. <P>SOLUTION: The illuminating apparatus is provided with: a gallium nitride-based compound semiconductor multilayer having a one conductive semiconductor layer formed of a gallium nitride-based compound semiconductor; an active layer formed of a gallium nitride-based compound semiconductor; and a reverse conductive semiconductor layer formed of a gallium nitride-based compound semiconductor layer; a reflection layer formed on the main face of the one conductive semiconductor layer or a main face of the reverse conductive semiconductor layer; and at least one of the fluorescent substance or the phosphorescent substance which is disposed outside the gallium nitride-based compound semiconductor layer multilayer object, receives light emitted in the active layer, and emits light. The reflection layer has wavelength selectiveness, is transparent to a light-emitting wavelength λ<SB>1</SB>of the active layer and is reflective to a wavelength λ<SB>2</SB>longer than light emitting wavelength λ<SB>1</SB>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
