In a limited slip differential gear comprising bevel side wheels 30 splined on output shafts 32, 34 and an input casing 22 having planet gears 28, differential action is resisted by clutch plates 46, 48 loosely carried by an annular member 38 splined on the output shaft 32, and axially biased into engagement with each side face 40, 44 thereof by a disc-like member 52 which is splined to the carrier 22 and has camming wedges (54, 58), Fig. 2 (not shown), which engage between to axially spread and engage the clutch plates 46, 48 whenever the output torque on one or other output shaft 32 or 34 vanishes e.g. when one wheel loses traction.</p> |
