<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system capable of simply, efficiently suppressing the deterioration reaction of an oxidant electrode in starting of operation. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell system is equipped with a fuel cell stack 1 having one or more fuel cells 2 having an oxidant electrode 11 and a fuel electrode 12, a hydrogen supply mechanism 21 supplying fuel gas to the fuel cell stack 1, and a charging means (a battery 301) making charge the fuel cell stack 1 so that a fuel cell 2 stores electricity only the prescribed charge amount in the state the fuel electrode 12 is made positive.
