<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric electrostriction device capable of effectively suppressing water contents from attaching to the side end face of a piezoelectric electrostriction element. <P>SOLUTION: The piezoelectric electrostriction device includes a fixed part 11; a thin plate 12 supported by the fixed part; and a piezoelectric electrostriction device 14 wherein a plurality of electrodes and a plurality of piezoelectric electrostriction layers are alternatley layered. The piezoelectric electrostriction device is manufactured by applying cutting processing to a thin plate body and a piezoelectric electrostriction lamination body for latterly constituting the thin plate 12 and thereafter applying prescribed particular processing (e.g., lapping) to the cut face (side end face). Thus, the ratio of the area of the orthogonal projection of the side end face of the piezoelectric electrostriction element 14 to an actual surface area of the piezoelectric electrostriction element 14 is "4" or below, and the adhesion of water contents to the side end face can be suppressed up to such a degree that no leakage nor ion migration is substantially caused.
